TLDR: The enhanced NFC ID check via the Thirdfort app requires clients to scan their passport's photo page and MRZ, use their phone's NFC reader to verify the biometric chip with the issuing government, and complete a face scan with advanced biometric analysis to confirm identity and liveness, meeting HM Land Registry’s Digital ID Standard.
Enhanced NFC ID for your clients
If you request that your client complete an enhanced NFC ID check, they will be required to provide a copy of their passport and its biometric chip via the Thirdofrt app. This process is broken down into 3 steps and your client can view a full breakdown of the journey here.
Completing the task
- Your client scans the photo page of their passport and the machine-readable zone (MRZ). This is the two lines at the bottom of the photo page of the passport, made up of numbers and symbols.
- Your client is then asked to rest their phone on top of the front cover of the passport. This then allows the phone's NFC reader to read the biometric chip in the passport. We verify the digital signature and signing key from the chip instantly with the issuing government body. This is an essential step in achieving HM Land Registry’s Digital ID Standard.
- Your client is then directed to complete a face scan using the front-facing camera on their device. Cutting-edge video tech uses the reflection of light from skin to confirm liveness and combat
deep fake attacks. Advanced biometric analysis compares the client’s face to the photo
extracted from the ID.
