TLDR: Thirdfort has introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) to enhance portal login security. Users log in with a password, then verify identity via a free authenticator app scanning a QR code or receive codes via SMS or voice call. Google Authenticator is recommended. Users can choose to remember their device for 30 days to reduce code entry frequency. Setup videos are provided, and instructions note omitting the initial zero in phone numbers.
Setting up 2FA
The security of your client's data is our top priority at Thirdfort. That's why we've introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security to your Thirdfort portal login.
What is 2FA?
2FA is a more secure way of logging into an online service than a password alone. It asks users to provide two or more methods of identifying who they are before giving them access. You may have been asked to use 2FA already on services like online banking.
How does 2FA work on the Thirdfort platform?
After logging in with your username and password for the first time, we’ll ask you to scan a QR code using a free authenticator app on your mobile. You also have the option to receive your verification code via SMS or phone call if you prefer.
Using an authenticator app
You can download a free authenticator app from the app store on your device. We recommend using Google Authenticator however, other types are available and will work in a similar way.
- Open the authenticator app, and select the '+' button, or 'add account'. This will open a camera within the app - scan the QR code displayed on our log-in screen to get your first verification code.
- Enter this unique code into your Thirdfort portal login page.
When next logging in you will be asked to enter a verification code. Please navigate to your authenticator app and enter the code that is displayed next to 'Thirdfort'.
We recommend that you also select "Remember this device for 30 days" to ensure you only have to enter an authentication code once a month.
Using SMS or a voice call
If you prefer, you can also request your unique code via an automated voice call to either a landline or mobile phone or SMS text message. Our videos below detail how to set up both processes, when setting up your number for 2FA please do not include the 0 at the begining of your phone number.
